Warranty transfer
The paperwork step that moves remaining coverage to a new owner — forms, fees, and deadlines are set by each plan individually.
Part of the Buying & transferring cluster.
What it means
A warranty transfer is the process of assigning remaining coverage to a subsequent owner: typically a form filed with the manufacturer or plan administrator, sometimes with a transfer fee and a deadline after the sale.
Why it matters
An untransferred plan can lapse at the moment of sale. Filing the transfer on time — and keeping the confirmation — is the difference between coverage that follows the car and coverage that quietly ends.
What it is NOT
It is not automatic at title transfer, not free in every plan, and not a restart of the original term — the clock and the odometer keep running.
