Voided warranty
When tampering, misuse, or unapproved changes break the warranty relationship — usually meaning specific claims are denied, not all coverage.
Part of the Exclusions & limits cluster.
What it means
A warranty can be voided — or more precisely, claims can be denied — when the vehicle is altered, tampered with, or neglected in ways the booklet names and the failure results from that condition. Odometer tampering and salvage branding affect coverage through separate rules.
Why it matters
“Voided” gets thrown around loosely. In practice, manufacturers deny claims tied to the alteration; unrelated covered failures may still be paid. Ask which specific condition applies, and to which repair.
What it is NOT
It is not automatic for any modification, not the same as a single denied claim, and not a judgment about the whole vehicle. Federal law also frames certain blanket “void the warranty” statements — see the Magnuson-Moss entry for the neutral description.
