Exclusion

What the warranty explicitly does not cover. Coverage is defined as much by its exclusions as by what it names.

Part of the Exclusions & limits cluster.

What it means

An exclusion is a listed condition or part the warranty does not pay for — maintenance, wear items, damage from accidents or misuse, or cosmetic conditions. Coverage is defined as much by what is excluded as by what is named.

Why it matters

When a claim is denied, the reason is usually an exclusion. Asking the dealer to point at the specific exclusion in your booklet turns a vague denial into something concrete you can respond to.

What it is NOT

An exclusion is not the same as an expired warranty. One says “this is never covered”; the other says “coverage has ended.” The responses available to you differ.

Terms in this glossary describe general warranty practice and US norms — they are informational, not legal advice, and not a reading of your specific warranty booklet.
