Vehicle service contract
A paid contract that agrees to pay for certain repairs over a set term — the legal form behind most products called “extended warranties.”

What it means
A vehicle service contract (VSC) is a separate agreement that pays for specified repairs during a set term, in exchange for a purchase price and often a deductible. Providers define the exclusions, claim process, and reimbursement rules; many contracts are backed by an insurance company.
Why it matters
The contract document — not the sales brochure — defines what gets paid. Compare exclusions and the claims process before comparing price, and check who handles claims when something breaks.
What it is NOT
It is not a manufacturer warranty, not vehicle insurance, and not a maintenance plan — it covers breakdowns the contract names, on its own terms, with its own process.
