Out of warranty
Past the term of one specific coverage — not a verdict on the repair, because other warranties or manufacturer programs may still apply.
Part of the Claims & money cluster.
What it means
Out of warranty means a specific coverage’s months or miles have elapsed for your vehicle. Because each coverage family has its own term, the same car can be out of basic warranty and still inside powertrain, emissions, or battery coverage.
Why it matters
“Out of warranty” at the counter usually refers to one policy. Before accepting it, ask which term was checked — an emissions or battery warranty may still be running, and special coverage programs can apply to specific conditions.
What it is NOT
It is not proof the repair is never free (recall remedies and manufacturer programs can still pay), and not the same thing as a claim denial with a stated reason.
