CPO warranty

The warranty attached to a certified pre-owned vehicle — often an extension of factory terms with its own deductible, limits, and transfer rules.

Part of the Buying & transferring cluster.

What it means

A CPO warranty is the coverage included with a certified pre-owned vehicle. Commonly it extends the powertrain term beyond the original factory warranty, sometimes adds a short comprehensive layer, and often carries a per-visit deductible once the original factory coverage ends.

Why it matters

The CPO warranty is what the premium pays for. Compare its months, miles, deductible, and transfer terms against the factory coverage the car already has — sometimes the added value is thinner than the badge suggests.

What it is NOT

It is not bumper-to-bumper coverage, not identical to the original factory warranty, and not automatically transferable to a later owner — check the program terms.

Terms in this glossary describe general warranty practice and US norms — they are informational, not legal advice, and not a reading of your specific warranty booklet.
