Bumper-to-bumper
The broadest warranty on the car — nearly every part against defects, minus wear items and maintenance. Informal name for the basic limited warranty.
Part of the Coverage types cluster.
What it means
An informal name for the new-vehicle limited warranty, usually the shortest in time but the widest in scope. It covers defects in materials and workmanship on nearly every part of the vehicle, from the electrical system to the interior trim, with a list of exclusions for wear items and maintenance.
Why it matters
This is the warranty you will use most in the first few years. When something small breaks — a window motor, a screen, a sensor — this is the coverage that applies, even though the part has nothing to do with the engine.
What it is NOT
It is not literally everything between the bumpers. Tires, glass damage from debris, maintenance, and wear items sit outside it, and it expires sooner than the powertrain warranty.
